BEACHES/SANDALS HR 11/26/02
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
First let me say this is the first time in Cuba for both my wife and myself. We went by AirTransat from Edmonton to Veroda, Club Class (heared to many complaints about the regular seats - well worth the extra money, heard many complaints once we arrived in Cuba and back in Edmonton. We went for two weeks both weeks booked at Beaches. Beaches is an older hotel well maintained, rooms are clean bathrooms could do with a bit of updating otherwise good. Staff are friendly/helpful, food is good lot's to choose from but not five star quality. They are cooking for about 800 people. If you can't find something to eat maybe you should have stayed home. We tried the only one speciality restaurant - Scooner's not bad I was not in a rush to go back. Pool area great lot's of room to splash about and lot's of sun beds. Drinks are plenty lots of choice, no need for tipping staff as they do not expect it here. Did not try out the beach area, but the is lot's of shelter again lot's of sun beds. Towel service available no charge unless you loose yours. $20 fee refundable if key is returned. Would I go back to Beaches yes. Nightly shows BORING, after you seen the first one, you have seen them all!!. The New Sandals HR........... First I should explain that we were asked if we would like to move to Sandals on Thursday and moved there Sunday for our second week. The rooms our great home from home, they were worth the move in it's self. The specialty restaurant x 3 our out of this world unbelievable what they can do with food. Five Star food was being served here. Drinks plenty, every choice available. Great pool service staff are friendly, most speak a little more english than at Beaches. Grounds are just about finished 90% finishing touches you could see everyday taking place. Swimming Pool area is Big Big. If I had a choice I would take Sandals over Beaches. There is still a bit of work to be done I would say by the end of December it all should be up and running. there is only the ground work to be finished. Sandals is what you dream of when taking a holiday in a five star resort. I will be happy to answer questions and send pic's of both resorts if you are interested.
