Club Amigo Los Corales 02/05/2003
Reviewers Rating: Fair
I've just returned to Canada after a week at the Club Amigo Los Corales near Santiago de Cuba, and I couldn't wait to get home. I am one of those people that likes to get up early in the morning, stroll on the beach and watch the sunrise. Well, I had to do that with a very dry mouth for I could not get a coffee nor any other kind of drinks for that matter, not even drinking water. The restaurant was open at 7:30 AM. No exceptions. When the restaurant finally opened I had to run to the coffee machine in order to be one of the first in the very long line. If I was lucky, after 15 minutes I would finally get a ceffee. When I was not lucky I hat to wait another 15 minutes in order to get a cup because there were not enough of them. When I finally managed to get the coffee I had to be lucky again to get a table. Many times I had to wait, with the coffee in my hands, until one of the was free. At last I was able to have my first sip of coffee; and that's when I wished I didn't. What they called coffee (it was not percolated ceffee, but made with instant coffee with water made by this strange machine) was no more than dark warm water that left a strange taste in your mouth. I talked to the tour representative, she did nothing about it. I asked to see the hotel director for four days. He was not available. The search for a table, for plates, cutlery, the waiting, went on at every meal time. To avoid part of that big frustration I had to do like many other guests did: tip the staff in order to get better service, but I am one of those people who like to tip only when the tip is deserved, so I rarely did it. I could go on with few more frustrating situations but I think the reader has a pretty good idea by now why I was glad to be back home and would never go back to that place again. Justin
