cuba hotel & resort reviews

SuperClub Puntarena 04/14/2003
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
We just got back from a holiday at the Superclubs Puntarena and have all good things to say about it. We read all the reviews that we could find before we left but went with an open mind, just wanting to have a great holiday and that is exactly what we had.
We arrived at the airport at 10:30 in the morning and were through customs and collected our baggage in less than an hour. The bus ride to the hotel was fine as there was a very happy crowd on the bus ready to start their holidays.
Check in was slower than we would have liked, but that was probably more because it was hot and sunny outside and we would rather be on the beach! We were checked in and changed by 1:00 so we still had plenty of beach time. The rooms were clean but basic, much like every best western around. Our room was an ocean view room, well worth the money to be able to hear the ocean waves first thing in the morning.
There were plenty of beach chairs on the beach and at the pool and enough shade for everyone. On some of the forums I know this is a really sore spot for some.
There were four restaurants to go to. Two that you had to make reservations for. The Casa Blanca was the best, very quiet and really good food. The buffet was good too but like most Cuban food there was not alot of spices used. There was a new head chef hired just before we got there and the people who were there before us said you could see the food getting better and better every day.
There were all the ususal water toys available, paddle boats, kayaks, wind surfers and hobi cats. Never had a problem getting one.
The bar on the main floor was a little crowded at night but you still only had to wait a short time for your drink. If you were able to tell the bartender what was in your favourite drink, they could usually make it for you. The piano player upstairs added great background music.
The staff we found to be very helpful and very friendly. They put up with our tries at spanish with a straight face.
There are quite a few tours offered by the hotel or by your own holiday representative. We took the private tour to Havana and had the best time...7 people in a mini van with a driver and guide arranged by one of the workers in the hotel. The snorkelling tour was a favourite of ours too...got some good shots with the disposable under water camera too...I was quite impressed with it.
We would definitly go back to this hotel as it is usually a bargain.
