EL SENADOR 06/28/2003
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
My boyfriend and I just returned from a great vacation at El-Senador which is situated on the beautiful beach of Cayo Coco, Cuba.(We are from Toronto) First and foremost, I would just like to remind all the Canadians out there that visit Cuba to keep an open mind for everything. Their standard of living there is much lower than ours, so don't expect the food and accommodations to be exactly what we are familiar to here. DON'T BE PICKY!! If you are, than I suggest do not visit a Third World Country. For the money, Cuba is exceptional. The property of El-Senador is astounding!! Well kept landscaped grounds, impressive lobby, large clean pools, amazing white sandy beach, I could go on and on!! The property itself is VERY HUGE, so it took us a while to even find the beach. They give you a little map when you check in, but after a few days you can pretty much do without it. The room we recieved was amazing!! Clean, spacious, large balcony, nicely decorated. I was in heaven!!! The people in Cuba are so warm, kind and welcoming. They only make about $20 US a month, so we tipped them often. The only drawback of this is that I felt thay were expecting a tip. At one point the waiter at the snack bar ignored us and refused to serve us because we did not tip him the day before. We felt it was not necessary to tip every time we wanted a snack. We just found another waiter. The food itself was pretty good, but like I said do not expect the world, even at a 4+ hotel. The quality of meat is not as good, but who cares!! Just have fun and enjoy that alcohol!! All in all I would recommend this resort and would go back. If you go there with an open mind and a willingness to adjust, then this vacation is for you.
