Tryp Peninsula Varadero 10/01/2003
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
We stayed at Tryp Peninsula Varadero from Sept.21-Sept.28. Having been to Cuba 11 times this was out first trip to Varadero and we enjoyed every minute.
This hotel is fabulous. The accomodations are very comfortable. Two single beds, sofa, coffee table, T.V.,mini-fridge, four cup coffee maker with coffee supplied. Great air-conditioning, lots of hot water and water pressure. There is a walk-in closet/dressing room with a safe, two drawers and lots of hangers. The bathroom is large and brightly tiled with a bathtub and a separate corner shower.
The food was great. The buffet had a wonderful variety of food to suit every taste and diet. Roast turkey, duck with orange sauce, lamb and fish of every variety. Two choices of soup, salad bar, pasta, fresh bread, cheeses, grilled pork chops, chicken etc. where available for lunch and dinner.
I found the pool small for such a large resort but we are beach people anyway. Here is the only problem I had with this resort. There is a huge pipe line running the length of the beach from the LTI right past the Tryp, into the ocean and out to two ships sitting off shore. This pipeline is about 2-3 feet in diameter and you have to walk over it to get to the beach. We were told that they are dredging sand from the ocean floor to make a beach for the new hotel next to the LTI. It's just very unsightly.
The gardens are beautiful. The nicest I have seen. The lobby bar is quite small and during peak times it may take a while to get a drink. There is an extra cost of $4-5$ U.S. for premium drinks.
Overall, this hotel certainly deserves its 4.5 stars and I would recommend it to anyone.
