cuba hotel & resort reviews

Superclub Breezes Varadero 10/31/2003
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
In a word,Superb...............

All 8 of us(guys) bundled on to a Jetsgo aircraft in Toronto, for a 6.15pm take off..Didn't happen till near 7.00pm because of some tech difficulties, but what the hell,we were going on holidays and were already half gunned.
Flight took about 2hr 45mins to landing, and about 30 mins to claim baggage in Varadero airport.
Then about 30 mins by bus to the hotel resort.
Check-in was a little crazy as you would expect with a bus load of people arriving all at the same time but with-in half an hour we were thru the process and in our rooms.(It has to be noted here that the Hotel requires you to leave your passport at the front desk overnight for some reason)I had a problem with this, as it clearly states on your passport that you should never surrender your passport to anyone especially people of no authority.Anyways, rooms were pretty basic but served the purpose. We were there to drink and have a good time, not sleep and and mope around all day in a hotel room...but I will say they were very clean and well looked after by the maids everyday..(Even I noticed this thru the haze of alcohol and hangovers).Although this may have had something to do with the $2.00 US tip left every morning on my pillow. But these people deserve it as you will witness..they work very hard for very little and all or any tips you can spare goes a long way for them.
So after the shower and change it was out to the bars...Lobby bar was the first choice...lots of different drinks available there and lots of people mulling around getting aqquainted with each other for various different reasons and causes but it was fun and friendly.Right next to the lobby bar was the piano bar..again busy and friendly and lots of people dancing..got to bed next day at 4.00pm in the afternoon for 4 hrs after being at the pool all day drinking and swimming in my underwear...after the spruce up at 8.00pm in the evening it was down for some food at the buffet...food was ok with lots of chicken, pork and rice with stir fry..I'm not a fussy eater anyways, but some of our crew thought it could have been better.Anyways, after the eating, it was to the disco which we thought was kinda small and not much room...Next day,to the beach.Really nice beach with white soft sand and clear green/blue warm water...lots of high waves to fool around in...if you're into lazing around all day this is where to be...amazingly beautiful.
Beach bar and grill for lunch..hot dogs,burgers,pizza,chicken..it's all there...can't go wrong...
Back to the pool...quite large and about 3 1/2 feet deep...with lots of loungers and chairs available..Pool bar offers quick service, but with the odd tip, even quicker.Staff are very friendly and very beautiful, so you can imagine the tips they were getting from our lot.
Scooters were available for rent at $15 US for 3 hrs and came in handy for trips into Varadero. Also, you can take a cab for about the same both ways.
We took a trip into Havana by taxi and it took about 1hr 45min to get there..you gotta do this trip..amazing..Resort life can become boring ,so get out and about to break things up.
Tip here, try and learn some Spanish before going to Cuba,it's amazing how well people take to you when you can actually commnicate with them...haven't said that...I don't know one word in Spanish...but it may have sounded like I did thru all the beers......The locals in Havana,Varadero and Matanzas were very helpful when enquiring about certain places of interest..they do their best to speak English so it would be only right for us to speak Spanish.
So there you have it...hope it helps when choosing your trip..!!!
