El Senador Resort 01/28/2004
Reviewers Rating: Great
Hola a todos!
I'm back since the 18 of January after a wonderful 2 weeks stay at the El Senador.
Flight: Air Transat flight was nice early (6h45 a.m.) was pretty good we landed at 10h15 20 minutes ahead on the schedule. Not much to say about this.
Borders: Cuban borders can be eigther tricky to go through or very very easy. Being a young girl travelling alone it was easy. I waited 20 minutes and done thing. Luggages were being pull out of the carousel by a man so it was fairly easy to retreive.
Bus ride: Since the airport is directly on Cayo Coco island it's a 10-12 minutes bus ride. With a air conditionned bus and a Cristal (Cuban beer)everything was perfect.
Welcoming: When you get off you are welcome by members of the animation team who are dancing the hotel theme (Se formo). And since with TMR they give your room number and keys you can avoid a long check in and go straight to your room and start the vacations.
Room: I was in block 21 right in front of the gym and tennis court. It was great because I was in the center of the resort so in proximity of everything. My standard room had 2 queen size beds, a table and two chairs. I left gifts for the camarera (chamber maid) and money so for the two weeks I had everything I wanted all the time never had problems to get water, towels...
Beach: The beach is superb. Not very wide shore but so beatiful. The frst week there was lots of jellyfishes because it was windy but the other week there was almost none.
Food: That is the only down side. I was sick for few days after eating Seafood at the Cuban restaurant. After I ate mostly at the buffet or at the pool grill (La sirena). I ate at the Italian restaurant I had chicken 'cause when you order pasta you expect too much for the home taste so you have a deception, 'cause nothing taste like home which is normal 'cause you're not home. But the Thursday in every retos it's Seafood night I had the lobster that was very good.
Pools: Too cold to use, at least for me but there was courageous people who used them. I prefere suntannig all day, but don't forget to put cream 'cause the sun is hot and burn you in short period of time even if it's cloudy put cream.
Animation: Very good. Very friendly with everybody. Most of them speak English and French, and a lot of them speak Italian or Deutch, I speak spanish so it was even more easy to understand eachother. They have all day activities for everyone but I'm more passive on vacations so I watched only. On the Tuesdays and Thursdays there's a train that brings you to the Salsateca at the Sol Cayo Coco the hotel beside El Senador, it's a discotheque and it's worth it there's a band and they play latin music and Cubans dance you can watch or join, they're great teachers. But they also play American music when the band is done or on break.
Excursion; The only thing I did was with a group I've met, we rent a jeep and drove to Playa Pilar in Cayo Guillermo, a beach that leaves me speachless, it's too beautiful to express in words and the food there is very good.
That's about it, it was my second stay there and I will return next year for sure!
