This was our fouth time in Cuba and every time we have been to Cuba we went to a different place. We are not picky people who expect a perfect resort we just want to feel good to be there and want to feel welcomed.
I will give you all the positive points about this resort. The maid service to the room was perfect, could not have been better. The rooms were outstanding. The resort is wonderful with lots of stairs but its very nice. The pools are very nice and clean.
Now the negative..The beach is the worst I have ever seen, tons of seaweed everywhere in the water so it makes it hard to enjoy swimming there, rocks on the bottom as well makes it unpleasant. It was very windy but that is mother nature that decided on that so can't complain about it. Bar service on the beach was okay, at the snack bar it was like they were doing you a favor. We went with two other couples and they felt the same way about the bars. In the main dining hall one morning one of our friends asked for a glass of orange juice and she replied its right over there. On an other occasion, we went to the snack bar to get some pina coladas and we brought our own "coffee mugs", they replied that they did not want to fill them up.
This resort does NOT go out of its way to make the customer feel important. The food was always the same NO variety, for us it was the worst and when we actually saw a cook smile it was a rare event. You can go to this place and think its the best and it could be if the staff gave a hoot about there guest.
Oh yeah forgot to mention our rooms were not ready when we arrived hummmm waited two hours and then we had an empty bar fridge (which means no water for a full day) and had to call to get our beach towels since we did not recieve a ticket at check in to get one ourselves. We checked in at noon, got our room at 2pm and by the time the towels finally showed up, it was 4pm.
No we are not complainers. We just expect the bare minimum from any resort we go to.
The catamaran excursion was awesome, we did the island pardise tour.
For snorkeling we went to another beach, Publico Playa Pesquero, about five km away and only 5 Pesos/taxi,that was worth it and if you are looking for a good snorkeling place, consider one of the resort on that beach, you will not be disapointed.
Overall out of ten I would rate this resort a 4. One last point: if you do decide to go to this place pay close attention to those who are driving the carts around the resort. They drive way too fast, day or night, and we had to step off the walkway which is ten feet across many times without having one of them slow down while driving past. We did have a good time and we have decided not to go to the Occidental again and stay with the Sol Melia company instead.
