Iberostar Daiquiri, Cayo Guillermo 08/20/2005
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
Stayed at the Iberostar Daiquiri for 2 weeks from July 31 to Aug 14. Had a great time! Weather was hot and sunny for the entire 2 week duration. A nice breeze off the water helped to cool down the beach area.
The staff were amazing and so friendly. They all work so hard. The animation team puts on great shows and dances at night (although the last few days were a little disappointing with mostly audience participation shows only). After the shows, usually the stage is turned into a small discotheque area. The animation staff will take out tourists after the shows to discos in Cayo Coco or to the bowling alley nearby.
The rooms were comfortable but could use a painting upgrade. If you are not comfortable with the room you receive simply ask to change it and you will be granted a new room to your liking within a day. The Camaguey building where I stayed, Rm. 3261, was great with an ocean view, 2nd floor and close proximity to the pool, beach, bars and restaurants.
I have been to six other resorts in the Caribbean, and have to say, the food was the best at Iberostar Daiquiri. Quite a lot of variety to choose from and the meats are not drowned in oil as many other resorts do. You have a choice of two a-la-carte restaurants, the Mexican and Cuban. Both were very good.
There is a pool bar, beach bar, bar at the entertainment area and the lobby bar which stays open 24 hours. A good selection of international drinks.
The pool is nice with a swim-up bar but I spent most of my time at the beautiful white sandy beach. There is seaweed that washes up on the beach but the beach is cleaned every day. The water is fairly shallow for quite a ways out. You will see a variety of fish in the water.
Recommended Excursions - "Half-Day Moron trip" – you’ll visit the town of Moron (where most of the staff lives) and learn a little about Cuban culture. You will travel through town on horse buggy, drive through mangrove trees on speed boats and visit a crocodile farm. “Jungle Tour” – You get to drive your own 2 seater ‘James Bond’ speed boat to a river for snorkeling. Amazing fish to view and explore. I also heard the Catamaran trip was really good as well, takes you to the coral reef for snorkeling and then to pilar beach. There is also horseback riding and a small 10 minute tour of the beach resorts by sea plane.
This resort is amazing for a relaxing vacation. You can get as involved as much as you want in the activities or just laze around all day. The resort has a nice tropical feel and is a good size (not too big) in order to meet friends that you have made throughout your vacation. It seemed that the majority of tourists were from England, some from Canada and a few from Italy. It mostly caters to couples and families.
Go to Iberostar Daiquiri, you’ll enjoy the people, the amazing staff and service, the beautiful beach and the Cuban culture.
