Iberostar Grand Hotel, Trinidad 04/10/2006
Reviewers Rating: Good
This is a new hotel which has been designed to high specifications. The rooms are generously sized, clean and comfortable. They have power showers and efficient air conditioning. However, they have very little Cuban character, and reflect the design standards of a typical international hotel chain. The hotel staff are efficient, friendly and attentive. Most of them speak English. Bags are taken to your rooms. The breakfast is very good, but we did not try the restaurant at other times because it seemed overpriced at 25 convertible pesos for lunch and 35 for dinner. A dinner for 3 would have cost $100 dollars with tips, and local restaurants offered much better value. When we left, we had somehow accrued charges of 80 pesos for not much more than getting a few drinks from the minibar. Considering its charges, the hotel does not offer many facilities, though there is free unlimited Broadband use, and a games room. Business facilities are also available. However, there is no pool, and no outside sitting space. The general effect is rather claustrophobic, especially as natural daylight is excluded, and around 1000 lightbulbs burn day and night; surely inappropriate in Cuba, where conservation has special importance?
