I returned from Playa Coco on April 30, 2004. I travelled with a friend. We were very nervous travelling to this resort due to the reviews that we read and knowing that it was a brand new resort. I just want to say that a vacation is what you make of it. This hotel is brand new therefore we knew not to expect too much.
The hotel itself is beautiful. The lobby is very nice and the rooms are nice and big and very clean. The restaurants (Italian and Japanese) had excellent service and the food was great. Most of the staff are very friendly and greet you with smile. The buffet restaurant was okay. There was usually something there that we liked. The desserts are really good.
The beach was not what we expected. Directly in front of the hotel, the beach was narrower than what we expected and there weren't a lot of palapas. The beach also wasn't very clean. What was nice about the beach was that it was white sand and you could walk for miles if you wanted. There was lots of sea life (star fish, little tropical fish, lots of shells) and we saw some amazing birds (cranes, eagles, vultures).
The entertainment staff were not that good at this resort. There were activities at this resort but they did not take the time to talk to you and encourage you to go to the activities. They used to announce it over the mic and use a mega phone and that was it. Most staff were seen sitting around the resort. The nightly shows were not that great. Some were okay but for the most part they were somewhat boring.
The pools were nice. There were a couple that were fairly deep so they were nice to swim in. The swim up bar was also nice. The water in the pools were cold but it is very refreshing after a long hot day.
The only real problem that we had at this resort was that you are so far away from all the other resorts. There is nothing around this resort. To get to the next resort it is about a 10-15 min. drive away. We went off the resort to go to a disco by the other resorts and it costed us $25 to reserve a taxi for a round trip. And taxis are hard to come by as well. You really have to reserve one and not take a chance that one will be there. There is a disco at the resort but its not very exciting. Not many people go there. Its a pretty quiet resort. Its good if you want to go to relax and you don't want to go off the resort much. We did one tour...a half day tour to Moron. it was nice but there isn't much to see and there is no where to buy souveniers. I bought all my souvenirs at the airport. All in all we had a good vacation. We met some nice people, had great weather (there was wind but it was a welcome breeze) and there were great drinks. I would probably go back to this resort in about 5 years when all the details have been worked out and the grounds develop (the area isn't very lush).
