We loved Sol Cayo Guillermo!! The beaches were beautiful. Ocean had many sand bars and you could walk out for probably 1/4 mile before it got deep. The ocean was crystal clear in front of our resort; however, we took a walk to the next resort, Sol Melia, and I would have been very disappointed had I booked there, as far as the beach is concerned - the water was completely seaweed from your knees on. We were so grateful to be staying at this hotel. Air Cubana was a treat to fly with. There were people of all ages at this resort, it's not just for the young, or for the old - there's plenty to do for everyone! The pool is right outside the lobby and you have a very short walk to the beach. You don't have to get up at the crack of dawn for a beach chair, if you're not keen on getting a beach umbrella. Entertainment staff were very interactive with guests, if you wanted. They would walk along the beach to get you to join in games during the morning. We were so lucky to befriend Alex, from the entertainment staff, who always had a warm smile and amazing sense of humor and would try to find us to get us to join in the activities. The waitresses/barstaff/gardeners - all were very friendly. The rooms were very colourfully decorated. Safe is included, no charge. Bottled water is provided daily. Evening entertainment - very good. Food was good - Drinks were good. Tipping really isn't necessary. There is a disco which gets started around 11:00 pm, complete with pool table. Lots of daily activities - beach volleyball 2x daily, Tai Chi, soccer, ping pong, pool, lazy darts at the beach, disco, water sports. Met lots of people from England, Wales. Internet is available. This, I believe, is rated as a 3 1/2 star - I would say this should be a 4 star.
Negatives: We had no hot water for the 1st couple of days - there was a huge, huge puddle of water outside our room, obviously the hot water heater had drained. There were lots and lots of tiny little ants crawling around the sink area and on the floor of the bathroom - I did hear complaints from others about that, as well. Also, if anyone is susceptible to sand fleas, they should be warned. I used bactine which took the itch away immediately. Mosquitos are out by the disco in the evening, as well.
However, I would totally recommend this resort to anyone and yes, I would go again.
