Sol Melia Cayo Coco 05/23/2006
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
Why do some people go on holiday to foreign countries? I don't always know. All I know is that they complain about the country and service by comparing it to back home (e.g Canadian complaining about the slow service when I checked in). Don't. Cuba is a lovely place to go. Safe, Lots of police (But so does Japan), beautiful beaches, food and people. I will definitely go there again. I loved it. I've been to most Caribbean islands. Jamaica-lovely island (avoid Kingston and the rest is beautiful), Barbados lacks character. Cuba is unique. It has its own character which is unique (untouched by American culture) That aside, the hotel is lovely. I recommend staying at the Lagoon rooms. If you do, make sure, when you book, your room has a view of the sun when you sunbathe on the balcony. (Sometimes you're just too tired to go to the beach on holiday). The sun is high so in some rooms you will not get the sun on the balcony. The food was great. The staff are very friendly (apart from trying to sell you things (in a friendly manner). I have eleven bits of advice for people thinking about going to the Sol Melia Cayo Coco: 1. Go 2. go 3. Go. 4. Dont confuse it with the "too many children" sister hotel next door 5. Bring plenty of Pesos to buy Cuban books, Rhum, Cigars and tips 6. Don't stay in the resort the whole time. Even though its luxurious, its not real Cuba 7. Bring plenty of Mosquito Repellent. 8. Also don't forget the ointment for mosquitos once you've been bitten, otherwise you'll be itching the whole holiday 9. Enjoy the beach. Its lovely. If you have fair skin the sun will be strong so on your first day don't stay out too late, otherwise you'll be indoors for two days 10. Be careful of drinking the cocktails. Its lovely and free. Too much of a good thing is bad for you. 11. Go (Review edited by Caribbean-On-Line Staff)
