Sol Rio de Luna Y Mares 07/28/2004
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
My wife and I (both age 29) just returned from a fabulous week at Sol Rio de Luna Y Mares (July 10-17 2004). This was our 4th trip to Cuba. (Brisas del Caribe varadero, Sol Cayo Guillermo and Sol Cayo Largo) We got the Luna side third floor of block 8000 (room 8319) with a fabulous view on the beach & ocean. There was some kind of a big balcony just beside our room where we could see and hear the ocean. The room itself was basic but very clean. The Luna side of the Hotel has a lot of flowers, palms& gardens. It's more spread out & beautiful than the Mares side. The Mares side has a better lobby & Pool. But the Mares (hotel and ground) is smaller. The food was very good. There is one buffet, one pool restaurant and one beach restaurant on each side. We liked the Buffet at the Luna more than the one at the Mares because it was less crowded. But each side was pretty good. The Beach was amazing at the Mares side, lots of palm trees. WOW. One of the greatest beaches we saw. The beach at the Luna was rocky in the first 3 meters. One kid got injured with those rocks. The beach at Paradidus Rio de Oro (just after the Luna side) was even rockier and not beautiful at all. I cannot understand how this Hotel could have a five star rating (Rio de Oro) with that beach. I saw the 3 other little beaches but there not equipped well enough and were small. The beach at the Mares side is more beautiful. It cannot be compared. Dont get me wrong, the Rio de Oro is very beautiful hotel, but not the beach. We did a lot of snorkeling just below the Rio de Oro, very beautiful. Lots of fish, wow! The shows at Sol Luna y Mares was nice but it was almost all the same shows that the Other Sol Melia Hotels in Cuba. The staff was great, every morning a guy at the beach shows up to install your chair were you want. At the bar, the service was slow (tipping or not) but when my wife went she had what she want immediately! Strange
:) So, this was a good trip to a nice Hotel and we can't wait to go back! Gracias Sol Luna Mares for a great vacation!
