Cuba Hotel & Villa Reviews

Tryp Cayo Coco 11/21/2006
Reviewers Rating: Great
Well, I have seen some very poor reviews on this resort before we departed but I honestly think this place needs an honest review. Let's start off with the beach. The beach is perfect and up to any standard of any resort in Cuba. It was cleaned daily for seaweeds, etc. The food ..awsome like anything or anywhere in any part of the world ensure it's prepared correctly. The food presentation was perfect with lots of choices. A-la-carte was very good. We had *the Cuban*, which was outstanding. *the Italian* was not really that great but okay. Also *the International* was perfect. And *the Chinese* was bland and not that very good but still edible. Service at the bar was just not good at all during busy times (ie., 4pm until 7pm or so). They definitely dont have enough bartenders at any time of the day and at any of the bars. The main bar was always packed. There is a bar just below this upper level (snack bar) which is always packed also. The beach bar was also a busy place but the bartender was a sweetheart so you forget about the line up. The rooms- you could not ask for a better room. A little stale but just open the window and let the air come in. After all, we pay to get the fresh Cuban air, why not enjoy it all the time. Overall the service was very good. This is a resort for those who like a busy crowded resort with lots of kiddies. The shows at night (one for the kids and the other for the adults) was very well done and very professional. We did 3 excursions during this trip. The first one was the speed boat. It was good to be able to drive your own speed boat and only be with your wife during that time. The snorkeling in the middle was good but not a great place for pictures since you are in a lagoon and the water is murky. The second trip was the catamaran. We were a little disappointed with this because we had hoped to swim with the dolphins but you actually had to go over night to another resort in order to do this. This catamaran trip consisted of 2 snorkeling excursions with lunch at a virgin beach. Overall not bad at all...the snorkeling was good. The third was the Jeep safari. Now be aware that, when you book this trip, if you are a couple, you will be sharing the jeep with someone else, so either find another couple or you will meet someone else. They do tell you that you will be alone in your jeep but it is not the case. The trip was the best excursion of them all. You get to see the real Cuba - mountains, farms, horses, crocodiles and also the city of Moron. Would I return to this resort? Myself, no, because we want something just a little smaller. Last point: if you want to meet lots of people from Montreal or PQ then thats your place. Have fun!
