Hotel & Resort Reviews: Cayman Islands
Turtle Nest Inn 04/22/02
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
Wow! The Turtle Nest Inn is fantastic! As the name suggests, I would classify this as an inn rather than a hotel, its one step away from a bed and breakfast. Also it has incredible snorkeling right off the beach.

If you are a Hilton, Westin, mega pool, staff that wait on you but don't know you, one of a thousand guests, kinda person than stay away from here. The owner/operators live on the premises, know who you are, seem to really care about you and your needs and are just nice people. They also can cook some excellent food.

This is a small property, on the beach in Bodden Town rather than 7MB, and you will probably want to rent a car if you stay here. There is no restaurant on the premises but there are twice weekly dinners on the deck cooked and served by the owners. You get to know your fellow guests while eating some fine food. There are restaurants in the area (the Lighthouse for one) and even a small grocer across the street.

We stayed in a one-bedroom suite with an ocean view. The rooms are large, have a kitchenette-(full sized stove + fridge, coffee pot, tea pot, blender, pots, pans, table ware, etc,) and either a large balcony or two smaller balconies if you are on the 2nd floor. They have both AC and ceiling fans. The tap water is the same desalinized water as 7MB has.

TV with good reception on all major US channels plus local channels, BBC, ESPN, HBO, and a couple other movie channels (even the Weather Channel). A VCR and phone are also standard.

They have a heated pool, a kayak and snorkel equipment available plus books and movies. The beach is nice, with more than enough space for all the quests to have their own space.

The snorkeling off the beach was better than most of the shore accessible snorkeling sites on the entire island--and I have snorkeled most of them! The fringing reef is only a little ways off shore, little to no current most of the time and I saw everything from full sized barracuda to yellow and southern stingrays, morays, an octopus (in his burrow so I visited him often), a gold dot eel, tarpon, full sized rainbow parrots, porcupine puffers, angels, lobsters, and all the other usual suspects.

Overall, If you are looking for a much more intimate experience than you will find on 7MB, with a friendly staff, friendly guests, and great snorkeling right from the beach, this is the spot!
