We just returned from our third family trip to Seven Mile Beach, Grand Cayman (and we left a deposit for next year.) Now I’m a gal who hates to do the same thing twice. When I drive somewhere, I try to use a different route home even if I get lost (all the better). So why return to the same island, the same hotel and the same room? Because it is as good as it get. If you look at a map, a see that Seven Mile Beach (really 5 ˝) is sheltered by small peninsulas to the north and south, a semi /bay so the water is always (at least during New Years when we visit) calm. And Beachcomber is right in the middle of it. Halfway between the Hyatt and the Westin / either is a 10 minute walk. Now it will be in-between brand new condos, the Meridian, the next property to the south, where units start at 1.3 million and Waters Edge, the next property to the north, will cost 2.3 million and up. Granted the Beachcomber does not have a spa, nor tennis courts, nor Jacuzzis (neither in the room nor by the pool). But it does have large rooms that are bright and airy because they get sunlight from four directions. And when you walk to your own front door, you pass beautiful tropical flora and fauna: palms, banana palms, fan palm, royal palms, coconut palms, croton of all colors and shapes, succulent mother-in-law’s tongue and hibiscus, red and white and pink and brave little lizards sunning themselves or scurrying around on the coral. The beach as well as having two thatched huts, if you want to escape the sun for a while, is partially shaded in places by majestic Australian pines (the Beachcomber beach is the one on the expensive condo’s sales brochure!)
The housekeeping keeps the place sparkling and delivers big fluffy white towels for the bath and large beach towels for the beach and snorkeling excursions.
The kitchen is fully equipped so if you want to cook (and/or use the BBQ grills that the Beachcomber supplies). There is a very large IGA supermarket and a couple of liquor stores just 5 minutes walk, or you can use a service that delivers from many, many of the restaurants. Then you can dine on your porch, which has a better ocean/sunset view than just about any restaurant!
