The Cayman Islands Hotel, Resort & Villa Reviews Reviews
Treasure Island Resort 05/07/2004
Reviewers Rating: Good
We returned from Grand Cayman a few weeks ago. We stayed at Treasure Island, and overall enjoyed it, but there are some things you need to consider when choosing this resort. A few minor drawbacks: The lady at the tour desk didn't seem to know much to help us. Our room had a few things wrong with it: a few plugs didn't work, the safe was busted, the bathroom light acted funny sometimes, and the TV remote didn't work. All minor, compared to the TOWEL situation!!This is what I would consider the main drawback. We would get back to our room at 5-6pm, and the room would be clean, but our towels would be gone. We had nothing to shower with after a long day of snorkling, and ended up hoarding pool towels (which were also hard to come by) in order to be able to shower before dinner. It sounds minor, but after several days of not getting clean towels until 8 or 9 pm and the front desk staff not being exactly helpful in this area made us seriously consider whether we want to stay here again. Honestly, I'd rather pay more per night and have some clean towels!!! If it weren't for that, we'd give TI resort 3 stars and definitely come back. PROS: It's a good location within walking distance to G'town or you can walk to a different part of 7 Mile Beach in the other direction. One afternoon we walked into G'town, snorkled the Cali wreck, ate burgers, watched the sun go down, and walked back...very pleasant!! We only rented a car one day and didn't feel we lacked anything due to the good location. The beach at the resort is OK, but directly in front of the hotel is a very nice coral reef, very easy to get to. The restaurants are OK for dinner, but GREAT for breakfast, we ate there every morning. The swim-up bar by the pool was fun and good for a snack between snorkling the reef. Taxis are always coming and going, and the steel drum band at night in the lobby is fun as well. The price of this resort is right, and the rooms are overall clean and we had a good time, but if you choose this hotel, bring several towels from home and don't expect the hotel towels until 9 at night. We're still debating whether we want to stay here again, all because of TOWELS!!
