Jack Tar Village 6/2/00
Reviewers Rating: Fair I've ticked fair because poor isn't available. We stayed at the Jack Tar Village from the 17 - 31 May 00. We returned to the UK with mosquito and bed bug bites, having to fumigate our suitcases before bringing them into our home. The food ranged from terrible to mediocre on a good day. The Jack Tar village boasted 3 theme resteraunts (only 1 was opened each day) apart from the fact you couldn't get in them as they were always "fully booked" even though many tables were left empty. The food in the main restaraunt was repetative and badly cooked, with the main choices running out within 30 minutes of the restaraunt opening leaving you with chicken, chicken or chicken. The rooms were adequate if not tired and could do with sprucing up. One day we received a memo from the hotel that in keeping with hotel policy all rooms were to be fumigated. This was in response to many complaints from the guests re fleas/bed bugs. On a positive side the grounds of the resort were tended well. The two pools were immaculate and the beach clean and safe. The staff were extremely pleasant but lacked trained leadership. Their was no mention in the holiday brochure of the constant harrasment in the hotel from time share/vacation club touts employed by "Allegro Resorts" In conclusion the travel company "First Choice" are advertising the Jack Tar village as a 4 star with gold awards. This may have been in the past but in my opinion would have difficulty qualifying for a 3 star rating. I will not be returning to this island.
