Hotel Reviews: Dominican Republic
Bahia Principe 12/6/00
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
My fiance and I stayed at the Bahia Principe Resort in Rio San Jaun during the week of November 18th to 25th 2000. The resort is absolutely beautiful! We loved the tropical romantic setting! The pool is very beautiful and clean, the beach is huge and again, clean. We loved swimming in the ocean! The amount of palm trees, flowers and bushes make this a very lush type of setting compared to some resorts that have nothing but sand and a few palm trees here and there. At night, there are beautiful little lights along the pathways. I cannot stress how romantic the setting is! The rooms were a little plain but very clean. We did not encounter any bugs or critters. We had no problems getting our room serviced and getting clean linens and towels etc. The nightly entertainment was pretty fun and the disco and rock bar nearby were great (at extra cost). We wished the bar served drinks past 11pm but we dealt with that! There are little bars all down the beach that keep you going on the long walks back and forth from your room! If you just want to relax, there are lots of ways to do it. We weren't too keen on the food. We found it very bland and just not what we wanted (very European) however the Mexican restaurant was our favourite. The beer and the coffee however were amazing! We went on the Catamaran tour and did some snorkeling and we also did the Jeep Safari tour that included horseback riding and a very daredevil type of trip through a cavernous waterfall. On this trip we also traveled through villages and the sugarcane plantation. I would highly recommend both tours. It was great to experience culture outside of the resort. The staff at the resort were very friendly and definitely appreciate the tips! We went away to just relax and spend quality time together and it was the perfect place to go. You can do nothing at all, or if you want, there is also lots to do. We would go back in a second (not for the food)! We loved ho w the rooms are in little villas. We were pretty far away from everything but we really liked that. All in all, it was amazing!
