I have just returned from a one-week, all-inclusive vacation at Casa Marina and had such a wonderful time, I wanted to let everyone know about this great resort. Although it is listed as only a 3 1/2 star location, the experience and the setting was worth a five-star. Casa Marina is two resorts in one and regardless of which you stay at, you have access to both resorts. The beach is beautiful and sandy, with a great water activities centre. There are three hot tubs set into the reef that overlook the ocean which was very unique. There are three pools, one with a ton of activities and two that are quietier for reading or snoozing. My only complaint was the number of peddlers that work the beach as they ask you over and over whether you wish to buy from them and several of them are persistent. Other than that, the setting is ideal. The food at both the buffet and the Italian restaurant was always very good and the staff are very helpful and pleasant. The bars are set right off the beach and my only complaint is that they closed too early as the all-inclusve package only runs until 11 p.m. There is one cash bar open until 2 a.m. for the die-hards. There is a disco on the property but it was very small and only busy on Saturday night.
We were at the resort for New Years Eve and they put on a very fun evening on the ocean-front with a band for dancing, champagne at midnight and all-inclusive drinks until 3 a.m. It was a great way to ring in the New Year.
What I think was the most interesting about this resort is that it is nestled right in the middle of Sosua, a small Dominican village. While you feel as though you are secluded, the town, shopping, a casino and discos are only a walk or cab ride away. The resort is very good about keeping your experience exclusive to guests only but you can experience Dominican life right outside the front entrance.
I had a wonderful time at this great little find near Puerta Plata and would recommend it to anyone.
