gran paradise 4* opened on december 2001.It is a good hotel, but be very careful with phone bills. Phone only in the lobby, ask to pay at once and check your bill. food is good but the "a la carte" restaurant are not very interesting. The main restaurant is the best one. The other hotels near gran paradise seems to be more beautiful (LTI sol de plata, riu ressort and iberostar villa bavaro).
The beach is very beautiful, very long (more than 30km), like in dreams. The only place in RD where beaches are more beautiful is saona. Unfortunately, there is a bit of waves, a bit of wind, and plastic things at the back of the beach if you leave the hotel beach (which is always very clean).
I went to saona (80$, 2h of bus), it was great. You shoud not go further, santo domingo is 4h away and not very intersting.
