Hotel & Resort Reviews:
Dominican Republic
Melia Caribe/Topical 02/26/02
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
I just read a review on the Melia Caribe/Tropical that made me raise my eyebrows! I stayed at this resort the last week of Feb. thru the first week of March of 2001. If you cant enjoy yourself at this resort, my suggestion is to stay in your little bubble! The people of this island resort are very friendly, and very kind to those who show them the same respect in return. Remember people...."to get respect, you have to give respect!!" And it is people like those who wrote that review that give us that "Ugly American" status! This place is so clean. And they work extremely hard at keeping it that way. There is always something to do...windsurf,sail,snorkle,beachgames of all sorts or simply walk for miles in the beautiful WHITE sand beaches....it never ends, it's all up to you to enjoy it and make the most of your vacation! I never saw a single Cockroach!...ever! nor was I even bitten by a single bug!! I never got sick! The food is different in flavor but "you are in a different country" If it is the lack of "top shelf" booze you are looking for, I will say they don't carry American Products or imported products as we know them to be. Need I remind you again? You are in The Dominican Republic. They are very proud of the products they make in there own country and obviously they make more money selling there own products. It doesn't take a business degree to figure that out. My suggestion is do Bring your own bottle of that very special booze that you and "Mr. Howell" drink if you can't deal with drinking there booze. I had no problem drinking Presidente Beer and some of the tropical drinks at the pool bars. And, if you would have found time to walk up to the main lobby instead of complaining, there is a wonderful littel cigar bar there that does have products like; Johnny Walker, Jack Daniel's, Grey Goose and many other "imported boozes" that you can "BUY" for a reasonable fee. If you are nice, they might even poor you a double for the price of a single. But, the key word is, you have to be NICE! and not expect it because you spent so much on your vacation and you are from the U.S.A. Nothing makes me more upset than that "dont you know who I am and how much I spent on my vacation? attitude. What a lame way to go through life! Take a breath and enjoy the moment...you are not working and there is beauty all around you! I had to reply to let people know that this is a AWESOME place to go rest in the sun! Don't let any bad review of this resort stop you from going. I met many people from different countries that were very concerned because of the things that they had read. After living the experience, you cant go wrong! Dollar for dollar, it is a bargain and then some!! If a group of people got sick, I would have to think that you were exposed to a virus before you got to the Island and it festered in your group of friends, wich is unfortunate, and I hope your friend is out of the hospital and recovering well!!! But, nobody that I had spoken with there was sick of anything other than the fact they had to go home and get back to work......Enjoy this place!!! It is WONDERFUL! I am going to the Royal Uvero Alto in one week and can't wait to spend my hard earned money in a country that works very hard to make you happy. I will give a review of that resort when I get back.
