Hotel & Resort Reviews:
Dominican Republic
LTI Sol de Plata 03/11/02
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
My now fiance and I stayed at the Sol de Plata over Christmas this past December. We got engaged while we were there and the staff were very helpful. The hotel is large and clean with a gorgeous beach. The food is very good (not superior)with a huge buffet and three a-la-cate restaurants. The resort is quite isolated and there really is no "town" in Punta Cana so expect to stay at the resort most of the time. We took a day trip with the Bavaro Runners which was an enjoyable day in army style open back trucks on which we visited a sugar plantation, a typical Dominican town and a riding ranch. I played golf three times, organized by a fellow named Johannes who is part of a company called International Golf Academy (info available at the hotel)which made booking times, transportation and finding someone to play with a lot easier. The resorts clientele can be very European at times and to our perceptions they come across as unfriendly. The first week no one said hi in response to a cheerful greeting! The second (christmas) week was more fun with a lot of young people playing volleyball, etc. Overall we thought the place was great!
