Hotel & Resort Reviews: Dominican Republic
Luperon Tropical Beach Resort 04/18/02
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
My husband and I stayed here for one week in May of 2000. It was wonderful! After a very exciting(!) one-hour drive from Puerto Plata, we thought we were in heaven! The resort was beautiful, lots of tropical flowering bushes and trees; clean, spacious rooms, friendly and helpful staff. This was a quiet resort which was exactly what we wanted. Not noisy or busy, although the "other side" (the Luperon Beach Hotel) had the entertainment/activity centre for those who wanted it. The pool was never too crowded. There were always lots of lounge chairs available on the beach. There was security so you could leave your belongings by your beach chair and not worry about them disappearing.

The food was very good here. Wonderful omelettes at breakfast. A different roast every evening in the buffet restaurant. The fresh pineapple was wonderful. The desserts were limited in variety but that may have improved since 2000.

The beach was a bit disappointing because there were a lot of slippery rock formations near the shore so there was just one small area of the beach in front of the snack bar that was good for walking in. So we usually just stayed at that end of the beach.

The town of Luperon was a 5-minute taxi ride and was interesting to visit. Lots of souvenir shops, some little mini-markets, a store that sold only CD's etc. We enjoyed our morning exploring the town. People were friendly and we took lots of pictures.

The vendors with stalls near the beach could be annoying trying to sell you things, but I guess that's part of the Caribbean atmosphere. We'd definitely recommend this resort to anyone who wants a quiet, restful vacation in the sun!
