This was our second stay at Iberostar. Previously, we stayed at Ib. Tucan,Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Apple Vacations gives it 5 golden apples. It was
perfect: great food, great service, clean rooms, perfect, very rich,
landscaping. It made us wonder why it was not a 6.
This time we selected Ib. Bavaro, Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. According to
Apple Vacations it is a 6 golden apple resort. I really have no idea why - I
would not give it more than 4.
- We had a nice room with a dirty, old bathroom. "Junior" in "junior suite"
should be read as "very small". I think the bathroom was nice some time
ago, now it was falling apart.
- We had to specifically tell the maid what had to be cleaned or she would
just mop the floor, add some towels and leave.
- The quality of landscaping was below average: the walkways were falling
apart and being very unprofessionally fixed; lawn looked like it needed a
major face-lift.
- There were small trucks, cars and scooters constantly running on the
walkways, between lobby and the pool, forcing people to walk on the grass.
- Some restaurants, which were supposed to be open, were closed and those
that were opened had an unusually small selection of food (comparing to Ib.
Tucan)
- Theme nights were almost eliminated to none (again comparing to Tucan)
- Pool activities were ok, but the audio equipment kept breaking down -
embarrassing.
- Most of the people were very nice, but a few individuals tried extra hard
to make the stay unpleasant:
o Depending on who was serving, we either could or could not get
non-alcoholic beer (it was on the bar menu)
o Front desk service was the worst I have ever seen! One guy tried to get
money from us for late checkout (in addition to the fee) - all we had
to do was come back during the next shift and talk to someone else.
Another one was playing a smart ass because I could not speak
Spanish - well, he could not understand a few other languages I speak
- Food and drinks were very good.
- I loved the fact that our beach was not crowded at all - at times it felt
empty. It was very easy to find a spot by the pool, too.
The bottom line is, I do NOT recommend selecting Iberostar Bavaro for your next
vacation destination. I do recommend Iberostar Tucan.
