Dominican Republic Hotel, Resort & Villa Reviews
el marinique in las galeras 02/20/2003
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
we just got back from our stay at the el marinique resort in las galeras a small town on the samana peninsula.we were just going to stay three nights but added another night because we did not want to leave!the hotel was great andy and nicole the owners were very nice helpful, thy made us feel rite at home the room we stayed in was a cottage it was clean and had a ceiling fan (no need for a/c)while we were there we had a breeze every night and it was kind of cool.they also have apt, type rooms with small kitchen and two beds.the resturant/bar has great food nicole is an excellent chef and every night we ate there!they have everything from seafood to steaks!i liked the seafood platter with lobster shrimp and mahi mahi .also you get a full breakfast each morning with the price of the room ,not just donuts and coffee!the beach is just a few yards walk in frot of the hotel and it is beautiful it goes for miles it seems .it is a good beach if you don't want crowds. the town is just a two min. walk from the hotel and has nightlife and resturants there but we never ate anywhere but the el marinique.andy set up a tour for us to go whale watching(just jan. to march)in samana bay it was great we saw about 15 whales some came very close to the boat we used victoria marine in samana. the guides name was kim beddal it was well worth the price around 40$us you need to book in advance because the boats fill up fast also take sea sick pills if needed. the water was a little ruff the day we went out but not to bad. andy also set up a tour to a waterfall called el limon .we rode horses with a guide that walked along side to keep the horses on the trail which was very steep and muddy in some places down to a large waterfall.bring a camera !but watch out for the mist from the falls it caused my camera to fail at the worst time because there is a crazy little guy who climbes up the side of the falls about half the way up and dives off looks to me about 50 to 60 ft up!lunch is also included in that tour about 30$p/p.over all the el marinique is a excellent value at around 60$ a night for the cottage with full breakfast, good food, and great service! when we return to samana this is where we will stay!!!
