Viva Dominicus Beach Resort 05/12/2003

I stayed at the Viva Dominicus Beach resort in April of 2003 and was very disappointed with the Viva Dominicus management. I brought four other people with me on this trip and everybody was unhappy with the operation of the resort. There were some excellent employees working at the resorts, the resort was poorly managed.
Check in/Check out: The resort picked us up at the airport and dropped us off at the wrong Viva resort, we had to wait 30-40 minutes for a ride to the right resort. We could not get a second room key. They keep telling us to come back later, we finally gave up.
The Room: We did have a nice view, but I think two people need more than one towel. Everyday we had to call for towels and water.
The Food and Drinks: The buffet food was OK, but they constantly ran out of things like syrup for pancakes, soda, butter. Everybody at the resort was sick from either ice made with the local water or something similar. The restaurants were hard to book, if you were not at guest services at 8:00am the day before you were not going to get reservations. They also charged extra for some of the restaurants even though it's an all-inclusive resort. The food was average. At one of the restaurants we ordered baked potatoes, boiled potatoes, but everybody got french fries. The pool grilles only had hot dogs, hamburgers, and pizza every day. pizza was not available in both locations.
The Water Sports: The water sports department on the beach gave us one price one day for the banana boat and a higher price the next day.
The dive shop was extremely conservative. If you are going on a vacation to dive, go somewhere else. If you are an Open Water diver they will not let you do 50% of the dives. The policy is you could only book a dive 24 hours in advance, to cancel a dive you must give them 24 hour notice. The dive shop is run by the resort also.
I e-mailed my concerns to the resort manager, the corporate website, the booking office for the USA and Canada and not one person responded. I guess they got our money and don't expect return visits. Overall this was the worst resort I have ever stayed at. I was embarrassed to bring friends on a trip like this.
