Dominican Republic Hotel, Resort & Villa Reviews
Breezes Punta Cana 11/13/2003
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
I visited the Dominican Republic and the above mentioned resort from 11/2/03 - 11/8/03. My self and the other guests going were a little bit nervous after reading some of the reviews. However, there was nothing for us to worry about. We had an absolutely excellent time. The key to this type of resort in this type of country is PATIENCE! Prospective guests should fully understand that the culture on this island is extremely different from the US or even Europe. They are a very laid back people and don't get stressed out about anything. Also, remember Spanish is the language there. Most of the waiters/waitresses only know the basic English. Room stewards and grounds keepers speak little know no english, so it may help a little to know several key phrases or simple vocabulary. When we arrived our room was ready, a bell-boy took us to our room, so there was no confusion as to where it was. However, room numbers are 4 digits. The first number is the building number, the second number is the floor level, and the last two are the actual room number. The room was clean, no bugs, and the air conditioning worked the entire time! The pool area is gorgeous, however, be careful b/c the deck area can be slippery when it's wet. The pool is refreshing on the hot, humid day, but could be kept just a bit cleaner. Everyone's tanning oils and sunscreens tend to end up on the top of the water. The food overall was great. I would definitely recommend the Japanese Restaurant and the main buffet in the Alcazar Restaruant. Lunch at the Marlin (pool grill) is good too. They have french fries and you can make grilled cheese sandwiches for those finicky eaters. There's always plenty of fruit, breads, and desserts available too. As far as tours away from the resort, we did the Monster Truck tour. It was outstanding! I highly recommend it. You travel in an open air truck with a guide through the more mountainous area. You see how the locals live and make their money. You get to experience the taste of fresh cut sugar cane - one of the main businesses in the Dom. Rep. All beverages and a buffet lunch are included on this tour. Cost - $85, half of which goes back to the local villages for schools/education. Things to remember for this tour - bring sunscreen, beach towel, and a hat to block the sun. Wear your swim suit and clothes you won't mind if they get ruined. If it's muddy, you're guaranteed to get a little dirty. Next, I would recommend going at this time of the year. The resort was not uncomfortably crowded. There was fighting for lounge chairs, which was very nice. Finally, when reserving this vacation, I'd recommend doing it through a travel agent of some sort. Everything was set up for us. Someone even met us at the airport and escorted us to the resort. This person was our representative while we were there. If we needed anything, all we had to do was call him and he'd take care of it. Have a great time and remember be patient - you're on vacation!
