Dorado Club 04/26/2004

When we booked this holiday we were told it was a 3 star hotel but on arriving it was clear the hotel barely scraped a 2 star rating!
You are given tags like a herd of cattle and fenced in by barbed wire. Once you actually escape the compound, code-named 'Colditz' you find that there is really little else to visit apart from a miserable, american 'mall' (plaza) and a few bars. There is no local culture AT ALL.
The food was absolutely dreadful, mostly inedible and the entertainment was the same. Members of the 'Fun Team' were loud, abnoxious, pushy and very rude often shouting obscene insults at the guests in Spanish.
Fortunately we met plenty of other guests which relieved the intense boredom in the hotel. However this was thanks to the fact we all had a common conversation point. That being our shock and complete disappointment at the Dorado Club. I advise spending the extra money and staying somewhere that isn't the Caribbean equivalent of Butlins!!
