We spent a week at the Wyndham in July '99. We had a great time, but there were a few "snags" that we wish we had known about. Here's the "bad" stuff... As part of our package, the resort contracted a bus to ferry guests from the airport...well lemme tell you, that was an adventure in itsself. I was glad I had dressed comfortably for the cramped, unairconditioned ride! Checking in was terrible, as we (and everyone else) had to wait almost two hours in the lobby past the scheduled check-in time for our room. Dinner lines were outrageously long, even in the restaraunts, making us dread mealtimes. Our room was on the end of a hallway, and during peak showering times our hot water would fade in and out, though all the other guests we talked to said their water was fine. And the rooms, while not dirty, were not kept as clean as what I would have expected of a Wyndham. Now the good stuff... The water park was amazing. Anyone with kids would get a week of peace and quiet, because the kids would be in the pools all day! Even us big kids were thrilled. The entire resort was kept tidy, and the small beach was a pleasure, with roving waiters and the comfiest lounge chairs! Entertainment was all family oriented, no extravaganzas but lots of fun anyway. Food was good, golf was great, and the restaraunt across the street was beautiful. The staff was, with one unfortunate exception, all extremely friendly, especially the door staff who always remembered our names and cheerfully played surrogate travel guides for us. I was glad that I was warned ahead of time that, in Jamaica, slow service is the norm. We chalked it up to cultural differences and got used to it. Overall the Wyndham offers a good deal and a beautiful setting, very comfortable without the stiff formalities or overindulgent luxuries. We would definitely consider the resort for a second trip, especially after driving past several other resorts in the area that just didn't have the charm that the Wyndham did.
