Hotel Samsara 01/27/01
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
If you're going to Jamaica to sit around your hotel room, this is not the place for you. If your going to experience all that Jamaica has to offer and have an unforgettable vacation, but not put yourself into debt then this is the perfect spot! We had a spacious garden-view bungalow which included 2 dressers, a large closet, 2 chairs, a small sofa, a desk, 2 double beds, and ceiling fans. The bathroom was primitive but it served it's purpose. You can pay extra for a room with AC, but we were only in the room at night to sleep and the ceiling fans were enough. The grounds are full of lush tropical greenery and very well kept. Since the hotel is on the cliffs they offer a free shuttle to their sister hotel, Legends, which is right on the beach, about a 5 minute ride. If you'd rather not leave the hotel they do have a lovely pool area with a jacuzzi or you could take the steps that are carved into the cliffs down to the water. They also have a cliff diving platform and everything you'll need for snorkeling. The bar is right next to the pool and is open from 10-10; dont miss the Sunset Happy Hour and be sure to say hello to Carlos, the bartender who doesn't know the meaning of moderation! The food was great, especially the curried goat, the huge t-bone steaks, and the french fries. The restaurant is overtop of the bar, but you can have your dinner at the bar or at the lovely area they set up cliff-side. The staff was very friendly and courteous and the only bad thing about my stay here was that I had to come home. I would recommend the Hotel Samsara to all budget-conscious travelers and I hope to return there soon myself.
