Jack Tar Village, Montego Bay 07/18/01
Reviewers Rating: Good
Overall, Jack Tar Village is adequate from the facilities to the food. Some of the staff were very friendly and accomadating (Patrick) while others were not. Anytime I went to the front desk to inquire about anything, I got a rude response. This was particularly frustrating when maintenance had to fix our bathroom one morning for "two hours". As I waited and waited to shower, two hours turned into seven. They basically tore out the tile, fixed some pipes, and re-tiled the place. They left it a mess at 4 PM and when I requested to have it cleaned so that I could finally shower, the front desk staff seemed defensive and told me it would be done within a couple hours--no apology for the inconvenience and I wasted a good part of that vacation day. I hope that this experience is an exception rather than a norm there. It seemed that they were always doing maintenance on several rooms, which speaks to the overall condition of the resort. The food was sometimes good but mostly adequate, my boyfriend and I ate out 3 of 6 nights (try the Pork Pit on Gloucester). The entertainment was poor, it reminded me of bad high school productions, complete with lip syncing. Despite these set-backs, I would stay here again simply because it is affordable.
