Couples Negril 09/11/01
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
Just returned from a weeklong honeymoon at Couples Negril. My husband and I both consider ourselves to be very picky people, especially when it came to where we would spend our honeymoon. Friends of ours recommended Couples because they had enjoyed their honeymoon at Couples Ochos Rios.
We were EXTREMELY impressed with all areas at Couples Negril. I would recommend this resort with full confidence to anyone. First of all the property is beautiful. The plantlife, the beach, the pool, the buildings...everything! We had read other reviews from people who were disappointed with the service, but we found that to be the real high point of our Negril experience. Perhaps it was because September is not their busiest season?? From our housekeeper to the bartenders. Our room was straightened twice a day (turned down bed or made bed and brought fresh towels and ice water). The piano bar bartender (Lyndon) knew our names and what we wanted to drink by the third day. The swim-up pool bar bartenders (Denise, Devon, Kirkpatrick) were all smiles and chatted with everyone at the bar. We had no problems with the waitstaff or other employees in the dining areas. They were extrememly outgoing and they answered all questions about the local food with a smile. The other staff (front desk, watersports, spa...) provided friendly, helpful service as well.
The food was wonderful, especially considering that it's all inclusive. We especially enjoyed the nice restaurant that has reserved seating. However if you plan to dine there, bring a collared shirt (men) and a dress or skirt (ladies). I saw a few people turned away because they were not dressed appropriately.
The entertainment staff was fun too. The only real activity we participated in was pool volleyball. That was fun and intense! We also took the shopping trip, sunset at Rick's Cafe, and snorkeling. We really enjoyed all of those activities.
We had great weather even though it was "hurricane season". Every morning we were there was sunny and hot, but the breeze provided some comfort. Clouds rolled in everyday except Saturday and it would storm for about an hour. The sun would come out soon after but it would be much cooler. Nights were warm, but not muggy.
We had to take a bus from the Montego Bay airport to Negril (almost 2 hours), and although it was a bumpy ride it did allow us to get a good look at the rest of the island. (Sit upfront so you have a better view and don't get sick!) The island is very poor, but everyone we saw seemed happy and content. Instead of taking the bus there is a "puddle-jumper" plane that shuttles to and from Negril and Montego Bay. My husband doesn't like small planes so we took the bus. I didn't hear any bad reviews of the plane shuttle ($100), but from the ground it looked pretty scarey.
SO,
Couples Negril is beautiful and entertaining and relaxing...go there!
