Sunset Beach Resort & Spa 11/15/01

I just got back from Sunset Beach and can't say enough good things about this resort. I'm so sad to be back home!! I guess to start off, I was blown away by the beautiful open air lobby. I can't even describe how amazing this lobby is...couches and comfy chairs everywhere, bar, casino, gift shop, restaurants...I could go on and on. And the view of the ocean is just spectacular. We stayed in Tower "A", and our room faced the ocean and mountains. I saw the bayview rooms and those were nice as well (you could see all the docked cruise ships). The other part of the resort (low rise hotel/inn) looked a little bit older than the towers. As for the food, it's not great, but they try and mix things up a bit. The buffets are not always in the Banana Walk restaurant area-- some nights there's dinner by the pool area or lobby area. Breakfast is by far the best-- the omlettes are great! The beach is nice, a bit rocky, but very long and a ton of room to lay out in your beach chair. It got so hot we literally had our chairs in the water! A couple tips: bring a plastic cup or mug w/ you as they serve drinks in small 9 oz cups. We bought big mugs in the gift shop, but they were $12! Also, there's stray cats which wander the resort, mostly during meal times. You're not supposed to feed them, but we did anyway! Try and make it to "Tea Time" at the Inn (4pm). Good sandwiches there. Also, the disco is a bit lame, but we met so many fun people down there and we made the best of it. All in all I had a GREAT time and would go back in a heartbeat.
