Wyndham Rose Hall - Montego Bay 11/15/01
Reviewers Rating: Good
My husband and our 9 year old daughter just returned from a 7 day "all inclusive" stay at this resort. I wanted to share with you some important "hints" I wish I was aware of to help with your stay! All Inclusive Package: When we checked in - we were surprised that they asked for our credit card to secure incidentals. We provided it - then we were given what appears to be like a credit card with our names on it. We did not think much of it - however - each and every time we were to eat - or get drinks - we had to produce this card - review a receipt which itemized what we we purchased - had a spot for tips and then the total. We then had to sign it. The first two days - it truly was really annoying - the last thing we wanted to do was to review receipts and sign things as we opted for the All inclusive package. I did go to the Concierge and ask for an explanation - they claimed that they just started this system as some guests opted for the European plan which is not all inclusive. They used to have bands for All Inclusive but some complained about feeling branded. This day to day receipt thing was an annoyance as we have stayed at other Jamaican All Inclusives an! d most of the beauty is to get away from reviewing and thinking about receipts and carrying credit card like things. Just fyi - we did decide to go with the flow... although this was very disappointing to us. Restaurants: When you arrive IMMEDIATELY go to the Reservation desk and book yourself as soon as possible for both The Ambrosia (Best) and Cafe Luna (Italian) restaurants. Make sure you book as many as you can - as we found this was the best place to eat for dinner. Food was very good - childrens menu too - beautiful view of Caribbean at Ambrosia. Breakfast omelets are great at the Terrace Buffet type cafe - I suggest you only eat there for breakfast -I swear to you - not one dinner buffet was good - but the omelets in the am make up for that if you plan. Also - even if you can not "get a reservation" at Ambrosia - it may be worthwhile to just show up there as there was plenty of seating both times we went - we were seated within seconds and we were 1 1/2 hours early with a table of six!!!! This is a really valuable hint... The pool complex was outstanding - all the kids and adults had a super super time! Two slides - lazy river - very good!!!!!!! Also - be sure to bring travelers checks or cash - the hotel does not have an ATM or any way to get cash from credit cards! Also - be sure if you go off site to get cash at the bank two minutes away at the Half Moon Shopping Center that your name on your credit card matches exactly with your drivers license. I was not allowed to pull cash as my license states Patricia and my card states Patty -fyi. The two trips off site which we enjoyed as a family was the Calico Pirate ship. A bus takes you to Mo Bay for half day snorkeling and sailing and stops at Margaritaville which has a huge slide and two water tramps. It was fun to jump into the water and snorkel. Safety vests are on board - there were children as small as 18 months up - good time. Cost is 35 US per adult and half price for kids 12 and under. Pirate shirts 10. Rose Hall Great House tour was really interesting. $15 US per person - shows you the three story "Annie Palmer Ghost House" tour! Beautiful inside with mahogany woodwork - pub in the "dungeon" - kids loved it! It really is quite scary... Golf was great - If you buy Blue Mountain check date - it was funny we got back home and brewed up some and it tasted wierd - looked at date and it said 2/99! All in all - we will always go back to Jamaica - however - I believe we will check out a different property due to the signing of receipts - etc.... Have A great time if you are going - I hope these tips help you! (Review originally submitted on April 15, 2001)
