Riu Hotel and Resort 12/16/01

We felt the hotel was beautiful. The beach and surroundings excellent. However, the experience left something to be desired. We had to wait at least 3 hours to check in, yet although it was advertised there is no later check out. Even if your bus is leaving at 2:00. The front dest person was "quite adament" on this point. There was no night life. The shows were put on by the same staff who is working all day. During the day the food was plentiful and good. However, at night you had to eat at two times. If you ate early at the first seating and were hungry later (say at 10:00) you were out of luck. No food was available. And coffee in or at least near the room would have been nice. We only had one key and had to pay a deposit of $20.00 US for an extra key to the room. (Most places two people - two keys)It was difficult to get this money back. Luckily we returned our key the night before we left since we noticed others leaving did not get their money. It took the front desk too long to find the money and the bus was leaving. In addition, we do not do drugs. My husband was asked at least 250 times to buy some. I was not asked that many times to have my hair braided. This was from employees at the hotel and on the beach. One emplyoee became upset and yelled because he didn't but any. We have traveled to the caribbean on several occasions and have never experienced these problems.
