Breezes Runaway Bay 05/22/02
Reviewers Rating: Great
Ya mon, No Problem! Just got back from a vacation in Jamaica at Breezes Runaway Bay a la superclubs super surprise. Everything went smoothly getting to the hotel and all (I had been warned of security problems, but it really was safe). Also the roads I heard were 'the road from hell' which wasnt the case at all, the roads were paved and narrow with a few minor pot holes, just the occasional crazy driver or goat. Anyway, check-in at the hotel went very smooth, although we got the 1000 block facing the property line, let me tell you if you're in it for the view choose a different block, cause we looked at a tiny morsel of ocean through someones shack. But the rrom had all the necessities, comfy beds decent shower pressure tv with iffy sattelite reception at best. The staff once you get to know them are fun and helpful but if you dont make the effort theyll just be polite and very attentive but not personal. the food was ok. the breakfast buffet was good lots of fresh fruit(mellons, papaya, mangos, pineapple), cereal omlets made to order, waffles french toast, sausage, bacon. That was in my opinion the best meal of the day. Lunch and dinner had maybe one or two really good buffet items like local fish or curried goat, but it often left me unsatisfied (but I was always full) Martinos was very dissapointing-- we went there our second night. I got the mahi mahi, and the person I was with got the pork loin chop. Needles to say the antipasta bar was great and the ambiance with the piano player was too, but the entrees sucked big time. unflavorful, small portions that were rubbery and in my case very fishy. The service at martinos was slow allbeit polite. The starlight grill had good desserts but the menu was drab and almost identical to the regular buffet and the bugs got you, I have welts all over my legs from eating there. On the bright side the beach was nice when it wasnt windy. when it was sand flew up in your drinks and face. plus it was to windy to take out any of the equipment unles you were experienced, which I wasn't. The people at the resort were very friendly. Ages ranged from 16-80+. many singles from college to honeymooners to couples renewing vows. Activities were plentiful although they were geared for the young crowd. They had a game room with pool and ping pong and 3 jacuzzis spread about the grounds. The side trips that are listed are plentiful but they have to get a minimum of 4 to go to send you, so keep that in mind. Oh and security is buzzing around the joint especially at night which is a great thing for those of you who are scared about such things. The drinks were ok, after 10 it doesnt matter how water downed they are. But you gotta keep in mind this isnt the ritz carleton its a low end superclubs... so with that in mind its a nice clean and friendly place with good people and a resort that you can have fun at too. That's the bottom line. This isnt a posh place, but its good for the money you paid. Being my first to Jamaica I was pleasently surprisedby this resort and you will be too, just know going in that this is an all inclusive resort so dont expect great food and great drinks, but nonetheless it was a good time. Happy travels Ya Mon, No problems! -Laurence
