Sandals Inn, Montego Bay 05/27/02
Reviewers Rating: Good
Stayed at Sandals Inn, Montego Bay, Jamaica from May 7 to 14th 2002. For the money, nice hotel. Very clean, reports of locals racing out front are true. No private beach, must swim with sales people and locals, but we swam anyway, made some friends. Booked the horse and buggy guy out front of hotel ourselves, 90 minute ride, $30.00, gave $10.00 tip, liked it so much, nice guy. Later learned if you book through desk at hotel, $45.00 for 30 min. so...book yourself when possible. Went to two other hotels via exchange privlges, smart and better food, Resturant on private island is great. Tokeyo Joes is great. Itallian, not so great, go to Itally for good itallian food. Went on Discovery Cove Dolphin Swim, booked through Sandals, $130.00 per person, included private car and driver for 2.5 hour trip. Discovery Cove is best gift you can give yourself or (especially your kids). Worth every penny, take lots of money, need lunch, (they have an all you can eat buffet for 12.95 very nice) and video purchase is a must. Dont venture to Jamaica if you are on any kind of 12 step program, you may never be seen again. Hotel was nice, employees great, deffinately on 'island time'. The maids turn off AC while you are out, call and freak they never do it again. Food at Inn itself was OK, edible but buffet was best. One night we swore they were boiling bags in the back. BBQ was good. If you believe the brochure, you will not be happy. If you do homework, read others reviews and know what to expect, you will be happier. If beach is important, go to Montego Bay Sandals, only one where beach is priority, and even there, vendors will paddle on any thing that floats to sell you whatever. If you have trouble saying NO do not go to Jamaica, high pressure sales everywhere, and even by sign language. Hotel was clean, room was large and ocean view great, but airport landing lights are part of oceanview. You cant even tell you are at the beach on ground level because of 8' wall around to keep locals out. Venture beyond the wall. Jamaicans are nice people, no hang ups, happy to talk to you for most part. We had a blast!!!!!!!!! We would most likely try something else next time, like Holiday Inn sunspree, every one on plane loved it there.
