Rui 07/15/02
Reviewers Rating: Great
Stayed at the Rui from July 4th to the 11th. Great beach. Hotel very nice. Like many of the re- views you have probably read, we had AC trouble. We moved once to try to find a cooler room, but the suite we got next, was about the same. (the rooms were not hot, but just not the "cold" we prefer in the tropics) I talked to some people that got the room we first left and they were satisfied, so this seems to be subjective whe- ther you will be comfortable. We pulled the bed to the middle of the room to feel the ceiling fan better. I liked the food but the deserts were bland (look for the bowl of Chocolate Moose, it was very good). The A'la Carte res- taurant had very good steaks, (small and thin however). There did not seem to be much for the kids to do, besides the beach, and I did read otherwise. The enter- tainment was pretty bland also, mostly crowd participation games, (some a little bit suggestive for pre-teens). After the games, some- times they would bring in a singer (one was very good, dancing and kicking very high, and a pretty decent Louis Armstrong impersona- tion). The staff was very courteous, and although we tipped some of them, it wasn't necessary to get good service. There were always a dozen or so topless wo- men on the beach, but after an initial confusion by our kids, they seemed to take it in stride. The hotel is huge, so long walks led you to your destination. Weight room was pretty good, and not crowded. Drinks were okay, but decent for an all-inclusive. The Pina Colada's were probably the best. They came out of a machine non-alcoholic, (which was great for kids)and the staff would add rum for the adults. The guests were mostly Europeans, which meant that they wanted to be left alone, with the exception of the ones from the British Isle, who seemed more friendly and talkative. All in all, we loved the hotel and beach, which might have been the best on the is- land, and the food was better than most all-inclusives in this price range (this hotel is considerably cheaper than a Sandal's or Cou- ples). Again we were disappointed with the entertainment, kid's ac- tivities, and AC (which obviously is very subjective on the warmer rooms, and no doubt many rooms were very cool). If I go back, I will bring a couple of good fans. Thanks to "Caribbean-on-Line", for the re-view space, and the oppurtunity to read reviews before we took our va- cation. Mark
