Couples Ocho Rios/Couples Negril 07/17/02

I had booked my trip in January for Couples Ocho Rios. Needless to say I was more than peeved upon ariving in Montego Bay and having the Couples rep said that Ocho Rios was overbooked and they were sending us to Couples Negril for two nights of our five night vacation. This happened to EVERY Ocho Rios couple on our plane and we met AT LEAST 10 other couples they did this to while at Negril. They did fly us through Burl Air to Ocho Rios two days later (no charge to us of course), but the entire experience left a bad taste in my mouth. How could you over-book by so many rooms?

Anyway, it did give us a chance to see both resorts. So I can compare both pretty well. Overall, I liked Ocho Rios more than Negril because there was more to do, the food was better, and the resort was more romantic than Negril.

Beach: Hands down goes to Negril. It was unbelivable with clear, calm water and soft sand. Ocho Rios had a smaller beach and the water was much more choppy. The sea bottom at Ocho also had some rocks. Not many, of course, but Negril was perfect.

Food: I liked the food better at Ocho Rios. None of this food is going to be comparable with the best restaurants you will ever eat at, but it was pretty good.

Service: I personally had better service at Negril. Staff at the restaurants was more prompt it seemed and less waiting at the bars (probably because Ocho Rios was packed). One rude waiter at the Ocho Rios pasta restaurant who messed up our order also makes me lean toward Negril.

Off-site excursions: Well, we went to Rick's Cafe in Negril. That was okay. Dunn's river Falls in Ocho is not to be missed. The catamaran cruise is also a lot of fun. Ocho seemed to have better off-site excursions, but I could not go on all the ones for Negril.

Overall, the experience was a pretty good one. I was kind of bustled around since we were sent to Negril and Ocho Rios in a five night vacation but it turned out okay.
