Grand Lido Braco 08/24/02
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
We stayed at the Grand Lido Braco from May 11-18, 2002. We had previously been married at the resort in May of 1999. Let me start off by saying that this is an absolutely fantastic resort. I mean, really first-class. We consistently found the service, food and facilities to be top-notch. We have found our favourite vacation spot, and will return as often as the bank account allows.... Superclubs advertizes this resort as "super-inclusive," and it really is. We did not take our wallets out of our room safe once. All food, booze and services, except spa treatments, are included in your price. Inclusive really is the best way to go. The resort is divided up into two major areas: a clothed "main" area and an au naturel (a/n) area. The main area is designed to resemble a quaint Jamaican village with a large town square as its focal-point. The main area has the restaurants, shops, 12 room blocks, main desk, etc. The beach is very large and quite nice (never found it to be too rocky), and the free-form pool is large with a swim-up bar. Two nice hot-tubs. Lots of activities, with a fun, easy-going and relaxed atmosphere. The a/n area has its own huge pool, swim up bar, beautiful beach, beach grill, clubhouse, 2 hot tubs, and 2 room blocks. These a/n facilities are apparently considered by those who are knowledgeable to be the best of their kind in the caribbean, and amongst the best in the world. This area actually started life as a seperate adjecent resort, but Superclubs took the resort over and made it a/n. The area is large enough to allow you to find a secluded area by the pool or on the beach to try the a/n thing for the first time. Both times we visited we had a room on the clothed side, but spent our beach and pool time on the a/n side. We got to know lots of people on the a/n area -people seem more sociable, friendly and active there. We played tons of pool volleyball -very fun and completely non-competitive. The entertainment coordinators (who are great, by the way) claim to prefer to work on the a/n area, as we are always up for games/activities etc. However, one never feels obliged or pushed to participate in anything if one prefers to just relax. The grounds/gardens etc. are impeccably maintained and are absolutely beautiful. When we were there in May of 2002, the resort was somewhat less than full, while in May of 1999, it was packed. I suppose this was a result of the industry-wide reduction in vacation travel. I suspect in more wintery months it would be more full, and occupancy will probably rise generally as people start to travel again. Note that even at full capacity, the resort never felt crowded -it is very large compared to the number of rooms provided. If I were to list negatives, they would be the following: 1) while the 24 hr room service food is excellent, service occasionally can be slow. Also, french fries arrive soggy because dishes are covered in plastic wrap instead of a metal top. However, door-knob breakfasts arrived exactly on-time. 2) the surfaces by both pools are somewhat rough in areas, and need to be repaired at some point. No biggie, as one can still walk barefoot, but I recommend sandals or flip-flops. 3) I wish that rooms on the main side had mini-fridges. Those literally are the only negatives I can think of, and I had to push it to get those. You know that when the biggest negative one can think of is soggy room service french fries, then there is really nothing wrong about a resort!! There is lots of information elsewhere on the internet about this and other superclubs resorts, including discussion boards, pictures and trip reports. Check out the MSN Group "Grand Lido Visitors Hangout," for example, or just do a Google search. You are certain to get your money's worth at this resort, and far, far more. Hope to see you there! Ted
