Sandals Montego Bay 09/21/02
Reviewers Rating: Fair
This hotel must be the most over rated hotel in the Caribbean. The rooms are adequate, but are in need of modernisation. They are also rather dirty, as is the rest of the hotel. The beach however gets ten out of ten, as do the water sport team. The food was appalling for a hotel rated four star, and would only appeal to people with no respect for their health. Surely a four star hotel should serve better than burgers and fries, nachos and hotdogs. The bars did not come out any better, with all drinks drowned out by overfilling the glasses with ice before adding the main ingredients. The noise from the airport shook me to the bones, and the disturbance from the piano bar till well after 3am most nights, prevented me from sleeping. Mosquitos were left to breed , with no obvious pest control in place. Within two days my body looked like a dot to dot puzzle. Considering the health aspects involved, with malaria still a problem in this area, I am surprised no spraying takes place. Walking outwith the hotel is dangerous to say the least, and possibly suicidal judging by some of the shady characters hanging about just outside the resort gates. Husslers even approach you on the hotel beach, by rowing in on Kayaks to offer crack cocaine and ganja. I payed £4500 or almost 7600 dollars for a two week stay at Sandals, and feel totally ripped off. Represents very poor value for money, and I have come away needing another holiday to recover.
