Riu Tropical Bay, Negril 11/19/02
Reviewers Rating: Great
I'd like to start by saying this was my husbands and my 3rd trip to Jamaica, staying at Couples prior to this trip. The resort gave a great value for the $$$. It was clean and well maintained and the staff were very friendly and most accomodating. We were upgraded to an Ocean Front room just for the asking. The beds were hard and as I have read before in other reviews the two double beds pushed together is very uncomfortable for the one near the crack. Our rooms were beautiful and the housekeeping does an over and above well job keeping you tightied up throughout the week, leaving a fresh flower and creative towel design in your room every day. The meals were nice but nothing spectacular, Couples food was by far better in many ways.(But you pay more$$$$ for Couples)The beach however is the same, Bloody Bay Beach. Lets face it thats where most of us spend 90% of our vacation and the beach is one of the nicest I have experienced in the caribbean. White sands, clean clear warm water with every water sport at your disposal. We made a good friend who ran the Glass Bottom Boat named Ackee. He would take us out on private snorkling trips to this fantastic reef. The cost for the extras was kind of a pain. In our previous trips to Couples ALL is included, snorkling, diving even the catameran excersions but at the Riu you pay extra, $15 us a person for an hour of snorkling. I must say even though the food was nothing to write home about, Ricardo, who is the chef at the beach chiken jerk shack has perfected the art of grilling chicken and making the best jerk BBQ I have ever tasted. We spent a total of 8 days and nights and we can't wait to return. Maybe next time we'll try the new Riu Palace being built at the other end of the bay, due to open within the next year or so we hear. If you're planning a trip to the Riu, have great time, we did!!!
