Renaissance Jamaica Grand 12/04/02
Reviewers Rating: Fair
This should be call, Jamaica Not So Grand. What a disappointment. The Food - worst ever in any resort we have stayed and that is saying alot. We tried two of the four restraunts and the food was mostly not edible. The buffets were also very poor with the exception of Jerk Chicken and Pork, the local speciality. Service - A 2 plus hour check in- procedure with the room not ready until 530 pm. Long lines frequently at the front desk. Rooms -We paid for a deluxe room which had a view of the parking lot, loading dock and down town disco which played loud music until 3am!! We got no sleep until we changed rooms the next night. Rooms are ok but nothing special. Beware of the location you get. Service - employees are courteous but not motivated to do anything special; the all inclusive contributes to a general, who cares atmosphere. The ride from the airport is 2 1/2 hours over a road which is under construction and in terrible condition. We breathed diesal fumes most of the trip which made people sick on the bus. The Air Jamaica trip back home was 1 1/2 hours late; they had us sit on the plane during the entire wait for someones luggage to arrive. No one would enjoy this trip. Beach: very small beach areas and crowded with cruise line people who come to the hotel beach and facilities for a fee. The ships dock directly in from of the hotel beach (about 1000 yards), blocking the view and creating more traffic in an already crowded hotel. Beware of jelly fish stings; we encountered a person with a very nasty sting on her arm. They dont advertise this. This hotel is not a good value unless you dont care about anything; it is not that cheap. Not recommended; I would not even give it one star but that is the lowest available. Dont waste your time or money on this one. Marriott standards to not apply to this property.
