RIU TROPICAL BAY 12/06/02
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
My girlfriend and I, along with another couple, spent the most beautiful 5 days and 6 nights at Riu in Negril. First, we were fortunate enough to get a bus driver to take us from the airport who was an excellent tour guide, pointing out all the historical sights as we passed them. As soon as the bus pulled up you could see the magesty of the place. The lobby is breath-taking and the front-desk people are warm and friendly. The layout of the entire resort is a sight to behold. It is in no way cramped like some other resorts that I have visited such as Sandals in Mo Bay. The rooms are not spectacular although the provide a nice view but who cares, there is enough to do at Riu that all you really need the room for is to hold your stuff and sleep for a few hours. The rooms were clean and the maid service was outstanding. The restaurants were very nice and the food, both preparation and taste was excellent. My only issue was that they didn't have enough Jamaican food and one restaurant, Sir Anthony, where you have to dress up and hopefully get up at 7 am to make a reservation for, fed you like you are a cat (tiny portions). Needless to say, we only went there once. The staff is exceptionally friendly and pleasant. There are plenty of activities such as beach volley ball,tennis,ping-pong,water volley ball, water basketball, snorkling, scuba diving(each cost about $15us per person) or you could just lay around and do nothing or drink yourself silly day and night. The resort is not far from most of the local attractions. There is Rick's cafe where you can watch or do cliff diving if you chose to or have a drink or eat while watching the sun set(beautiful sight). There is also a restaurant called Kuyaba. The food is great. The outdoor decore is really nice. If you are afraid of cats though, don't go there. They don't bother you but if you are scared of them, you will not like this place as there are a few of them walking around. If you are a party fan, you must go to a club called JUNGLE especially on thursday and saturday nights after midnight. To get to any of these places, take a walk down to the exit of the resort and take a cab from there, resort taxis are too expensive. If you can find him, get DENNY to take you where you want to go. He is real nice and very, very inexpensive. He will take you wherever you want to go, wait for you and bring you back. Riu Tropical Bay, in my view, gives you a hell of a BANG! for your buck. LOOOOOOOOOVED it!
