Beaches Negril 12/22/02
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
Our family trip started Dec 4th, 2002. We had planned to take the air jamaica express flight to Negril...but alas the next flight wasn't until 2hrs later and we decided to take the bus. I was impressed with the new road and true to his word our bus driver got us there in 90 min. ;-) The check in was a little confusing but we were escorted to our rooms within 15 min of arrival. I prefer a more private..one on one check in...so I can ask questions..but there doesn't seem to be any areas to do this. Since we had 5 in our party we got the one bedroom conciere suite. I'm glad we did. We originally had thought we would get the BF junior ste and get a rollaway...but those double sofa beds will only fit one person! the twin sofa beds barely fit my 10yr old...so be carefull when taking the kids. We basicly had two rooms next to eachother with an adjoining door that locked! NICE. ;-) The kids had a room and a bathroom all to themselves. They loved this and since they are 16,12 & 10 we supplied them with walkie talkies and let them do pretty much whatever as long as they checked in and had a walkie talkie. If you go...take the orientation tour. It's very helpful and saves you time throughout your trip in looking for things and wondering what's that for. The kids kamp looked nice and I saw several little groups of kids with nannys and they all looked like they were being well taken care of. Our boys loved the new Game Waves Center! My kids absolutly loved it here. When they got the late night munchies they went down to the tex mex place and got burgers fries and icecream! They must have had 10 pina colodas (virgin) a day! We all loved the food there, especially at the Seville (adults only) All the meals at the Mill were good. A big selection and I noticed the chef out on the floor watching to make sure everything was going smoothly. I do tend to like pool sevice for drinks...but with it being a family resort I can understand why they don't do that. Our kids did most of the watersports...including the banana boat! They even got me on it and we had a blast. We also tried the scuba. This PADI dive team is excellent! The swim test was hard (6 laps) but it was worth it. I took my test, passed, and then took the course. The course took only about 90 min b/c I was the only one in it that day. He tried hard to get me through it so I could go and dive with my husband and 12 yr old that same morning. I made it and my instrustor knew I was a little nervous and held my had the entire time!! It was awesome and I felt very safe. The next day my hubby and son went again and they did an awesome video tape of them!! Priceless! I will say...if you go and want some peace and quiet at night...ask your travel agent to request the santa cruz block or the montplier block 800#'s and higher. The disco is so loud until 3am almost everynight. We were in the Savana block 600's and could hear everything! Not fun. The manager was very nice and said he would be glad to move us...but moving 5 people is more trouble than its worth. We also took a visit over to Sandy Bay is. They have the glass bottm boat over there. The renovations are done and it's beautiful! A much more quiet resort, but very nice. I would go there if my kids were little and they just wanted to play in the pool and at the beach. No much for activities that I saw. My only dissapointments were...noise, but they did offer to move us. And the tepanakiki resturant. I expected a bit of a show here, but instead the chef acted like he didn't want to be there...barely spoke to us and I had to put my scallops back on the grill b/c they were not fully cooked. I mentioned this on my comment card...so hopefully they will take care of it. ?? We had a great week here and my kids can't wait to go back. Save your $$ I told them, this one was a pricy one...but worth it. ;-) JB
