My husband and I visited Couples Negril 12/5/02-12/10-02 for a birthday/anniversary celebration. We absolutely fell in love with the resort and I hope to give some insight on this beautiful tropical paradise. I must admit that I had very high expectations after reading only positive reviews of this resort. I was not disappointed to say the least. This resort is absolutely breathtaking in every way. The grounds are immaculate and set amongst tropical foliage and fish ponds. The staff was always warm and friendly and would go above and beyond to make you happy at all times. The beach was calm and crystal clear and simply stunning. The food was never ending and always of exceptional variety and great taste. I will give a brief summary of the pros and cons as every resort is not perfect. We will definitely return to Couples Negril if we should return to Negril in the future. I would highly recommend this lovely resort without hesitation to anyone in search of a romantic getaway where you will be pampered in every way... The Pros: 1. The most wonderfully warm and hospitable staff. I fell in love with the Jamaican people as they are always smiling and friendly. Watersports staff member Jeffery "Big Head" was awesome and we already miss him! 2. The bed is simply divine! One of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in with lots of big fluffy pillows. 3. The beach is beautiful and immaculate. Calm and pristine clear water. Beautiful sunsets. 4. The food is never ending as there is always somewhere to eat if you are hungry. The beach grille was wonderful for a quick bite to eat. The jerk patties were awesome as was the jerk chicken. The cassava terrace restaurant always had wonderful breakfasts with eggs and omelets to order as well as fresh fruit smoothies. Lunches were done buffet style with a different theme every day. Dinner was either buffet style or a la carte dining depending on the day. The food was always good. Otaheite was a lovely restaurant and very intimate and romantic. Food was out of this world although portions were small since it is a gourmet restaurant. 5. Alcohol is free flowing and always premium brands. Ask to try a Flaming Bob Marley shot. It will put you on your tail. 6. Air conditioning worked great! It's all done by remote control and worked wonderfully. Be sure to always close your balcony door or else it will shut off. We were always very cold. Cons:(Although very small issues) 1. Take your own blow dryer as the one in the room only blows warm air at a very low setting. 2. Water pressure in shower would go from wonderful to none at all as the shower would turn off several times during our showers. It must have something to do with water rationing. Several other couples we met mentioned the same thing happening to them. 3. No bottled water offered in room, restaurants, or bars. You must bring your own or purchase it in the gift shop. 4. Shrimp and Lobster were not offered as a main entree when we visited. We were hoping for a nice Lobster tail at the gourmet restaurant but they said that it was not in season. If you are a fish lover there are always plenty of fish entrees to choose from. 5. Snorkel equipment is not allowed to be used at beach. They only allow the snorkel equipment to be taken out on snorkeling excursions. All in all Couples Negril was a little piece of heaven on earth.
