Grand Lido - Sans Souci 01/05/03
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
Hello everyone, I have to tell you first that this message board has been very helpful to me in selecting resorts for our travels to Caribbean in the past. My girlfriend and I just came back from a 2-week vacation which we spent it in Grand Lido Sans Souci and it was GREAT! We got there on 12/21/02 and left 1/4/03. The first week was very quiet, since they had only about 40% occupancy, but we liked it as well because the service all around was great. Around new year it got to almost 100% occupancy and, as such, service suffered a bit. All and all this is a very nice place to stay if you aren't too much into constant day and evening activities and would like a quiet place with beautiful location, excellent service, and very good food. Accommodations: We originally had a Varenda unit (smaller) but were upgraded to a Junior Suite. Also, first night were given a unit in E block which is adjucent to Balloon Bar Terrace at which band plays in the evening and could be very noisy. So we requested to be moved to the G block which is very quiet. Our suite was very specious with beatiful view of the sea from the balcony (G16). Furniture could be replaced, because they are getting old, but ovrall we had no complaint after they moved us to this unit. Serive: For a resort at which no tips are allowed, the staff really give you all their BEST. Maids and room serive were very good. Ground staff really kept this place in a great shape. Bartenders were specially friendly and helpful (Christopher, Marlon, Orlando, Kevin, Wayne, Shaun, and many others). Food: Palazzina is the place you go to for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (by resrvation). It has a great view. Buffet breakfast and lunch was good. dinner menu was very good. Bella Vista for lunch has great hamburgers, fries (the best), and jerk pork. We didn't try this place for dinner (dinner menu didn't excite us that much). Casanova (by reservation)has a very good menu for dinner. Wine selection could be better although what they served was good. The wait staff is very very good. Entertainment: The social directors (Hamish, David, Sheena, Antoinette, and Kay) did an excellent job in trying to keep the guests engaged and occupied all day. The nightly shows at Balloon Bar was fun and the resident band was a very good one. We are not party animals and, as such, the entertainment was adequete for us but I know some guests weren't that happy in this area. General comments:Grand Lido web site advertises that each guest is entitled to cpmplementry massage every day during his or her stay (with the exception of some packages). We only got 4 massages per week per person. We tried and tried to resolve that, promised again but refused! But, the massage treatments they offer are heavenly (specially the locations where you get it)!! Overall, we will definitely recommend this resorts to our friends as a great place to spend a vacation. But, 2 weeks is a long time to stay there since the dinner menu is fixed and food gets kind of unexciting after a while. We could go to another Grand Lido resort (like Braco) but at the end decided to stay put! SZ..........
