Starfish Trelawny Beach Resort 08/22/2003
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
Our family just returned from Jamaica after a wonderful week at the Starfish Trelawny Beach Resort(8/6/03-8/13/03). We brought our two teenage daughters with us and they report this was the very best family vacation they have ever been on.

I am posting my review of the resort because when I was doing research on which resort to take my family to in Jamaica I read many reviews of this resort and other resorts on the island. I decided to take my travel agents advice and give Starfish Trelawny Beach a try and I'm glad I did.

After arriving in Montego Bay Airport we went to the Superclub Desk at the airport for our travel bus to the resort. While at the desk to check in for our ride we were checked into our hotel
(Very organized). After a thirty-minute drive to the hotel we were greeted at the front desk with ice cold mint scented washcloths, room keys and escorted to our rooms. The front desk was well staffed with an experienced crew that answered all of our questions and gave superior service with a smile.

The resort is beautiful with 4 pools, a swim up bar, 2 waterslides, miniature golf course, ice skating rink, 5 restaurants, very large beautiful beach, island just offshore, circus training club, disco, piano bar, nightly family centered entertainment, child camp w/daycare and babysitting and a wedding pier( we saw 6 weddings while we were there). The resort is very well maintained with an exceptional landscaping/cleaning crew. The beach was cleaned, raked before guests arrived in the morning with plenty of chairs and shaded cabanas available for everyone.
Food - Buffet-Great, plentiful and well presented with American/British fare as well as traditional Jamaican island jerk pork & chicken. The choices at each meal were so plentiful with numerous entrees, veggies, salad bar (exceptional) deserts choices. We ate a lot at the beachside restaurant during the day that offered traditional Jamaican buffet at lunch, hotdogs, hamburgers, fries, salad, popcorn, sandwiches and a great drink bar with frozen virgin drinks and liquor drinks. This is truly an all inclusive resort - our room had a fully stocked bar with 4 full bottles of liquor (scotch, vodka, rum, whiskey )a mini fridge with soda mixers, coffee pot with excellent Jamaican coffee - all replenished daily. The resort has a bar at every turn that caters to your every request. I am not a drinker but I did try a few tropical blender drinks just to taste them and they were delicious. The bartenders were constantly cutting up fresh fruits to add to the drinks. Children were able to get virgin fresh fruit smoothies at every bar along with soda or juices.
Other restaurant choices - Japanese Restaurant (didn't try but others I met said it was good) Italian - (didn't try) The buffet always had pizza and Italian choices so I didn't feel the need to go. Casablanca 4 star, four course restaurant (included with all inclusive package) except for lobster, which is offered on this menu ($22/person). My family decided to have the lobster and steak dinner and it was by far the best ever. The decor of the restaurant is a done in black & white with shades of gray ( not my favorite color scheme) but the meal was great and the service was exceptional.

The best part of this vacation was the resort staff we met and the fellow travelers we met from all over the world. Many guests come year after year for their family vacations and we think we may do the same.

Other really fun times - The water trampoline and slide in the ocean ( kids loved this ) snorkeling on the coral reef, shopping on the resort
( island crafters and artists are invited on the resort daily to display their works and guest are invited to shop)- other things to do that we didn't do but enjoyed watching others do -
sail boating, kayaks, jet skis, deep sea diving, tours to tourist destinations on the island.

Room For Improvement- We had 2 adjoining ocean view rooms with balconies. Beautiful and breathtaking views from balcony but average rooms with older furniture. King size bed and twin beds in both rooms but older decor that needs to be updated. Bathrooms - very clean and updated recently with nice tile and fixtures, blow-dryer, pump body gel soaps and shampoo.

Greatest Memories - Entertainment Staff & Waterfront staff - All are well trained, friendly and really get you invlolved if you want to be( esp. the children). It was fun to watch the talent shows that highlighted the children and their newly learned circus talents, fashion shows and general talent shows. The adult entertainment was also great with a great house band and different singing talents nightly ( also had a jamaican drum band and jamaican dancers, limbo, congo etc.

Overall Review Great value, great service, perfect for families or persons of all ages.
